Song Spotlight: Walter the Producer's Memphis (a night at Zebulon)

Walter the Producer (moniker for Reid Hosp) opened up a recent night at Zebulon. With vocals that hinted of Bob Dylan, he took command of the venue. Or maybe not. While up on stage suggesting that people should feel free to dance during his set (though he admitted that he himself did not dance when he went out), he heard some people off on the step seats talking, "Who's talking? What the hell. I thought I commanded request."

His BMI profile mentions that he grew up in Massachusetts and learned to play guitar and piano at 10. As for his sound, "Praised for his refreshingly original sound that’s both authentic and infectious, Walter The Producer is a diligent artist and masterful storyteller." One can also say he has some boisterous fans. Throughout the set, a handful of fans / friends kept yelling throughout the night and telling to him to play another song. The night was filled with people screaming out, "Yeah," "Next the one," "Play another," and "Hurry up." He feigned surprise whenever he heard those from the crowd.

Maybe people were getting too boisterous, because the comment of the night is: someone needs to put a muzzle on him.

Those fans, once asked to step forward, took to the front of the stage and stayed around for his folk-rock songs that were sung with a touch of a snarl. The set ended with an audience chant, "Walter! Walter! Walter!" Interestingly, per this Real Ones Show Instagram post, the reason he isn't Reid the Producer is that he was trying to avoid getting bullied in high school for making music.

The Song Spotlight goes to the folk driven "Memphis." A song about running away to see if it'll help deal with heartbreak.
