Tankerlow recently celebrated their sophomore album release, SLAGROOM, at Zebulon. The band played the album front to back, which I say is the way a record release party should be done (if possible). The Moorpark band trio includes Guy Azulay, Kyle Norvell, and Connor Scheff. For the night, the band filled out their sound with three other musicians, creating an orchestral wall of sound.

Lined up at the front of the stage were three guitarists and a bassist. At times, the venue floor shook as pounding bass sounds reverberated. The music penetrated the bodies of the crowd, many of whom bounced to the pulsating beats.
The band's vocals are stream of consciousness, spoken word. This is Hollywood and so I'll say those lyrics often sounded like a voice-over to a dark Sci-Fi movie. As if to provide emphasis, the opening lyrics to their set (from their song "DIN") is "This is the emptiness." Almost sounds like it belongs to "Blade Runner."

Their song "PLASTICINE" starts with low volume aggression that explodes with the lyrics, "I am all and nothing." Back to the movies, "LETA YANCY" feels like a sweeping scene on Arrakis from Dune. Perhaps "ERGO/OGRE" should fit better with Dune as it has the lyrics, "Like sanded desert." Okay, not everything is SciFi, "Beets" just might have you in fear of turning off the lights.
The song from the album getting the most attention is "YES, I AM AN ANIMAL." A song about the wonder of life and yet still not being fully satisfied, "But the hunger for more calls me."

The band ended the set with their final album track "SANGUINE." A dusty weary tune that ended with the band on their knees, scratching out musical notes on their guitar pedals.
Comment of the set when there were shouts for an encore: That was the whole f*cking thing.
Setlist: SLAGROOM. DIN. PLASTICINE. GLORY HOLE. LETA YANCY. ERGO/ORGE. FORMULA BABY. BEETS. YES, I AM AN ANIMAL. SANGUINE.
