Song Spotlight: Sonora Pines' TFM (an afternoon at Echo Park Rising, RAVEN's Gallery stage)

The RAVEN's Gallery was one of the smaller stages at Echo Park Rising, but big things come in small packages. On Sunday, the venue's schedule was closing it out with two bands that I've covered on this blog site: Ali Angel and Belle and Chain. I stopped by earlier in the day and was treated to the sounds of Sonora Pines. Per their website, the band is a "desert psych trio blending hypnotic psychedelia dream pop, and desert rock with a distinctly melancholic edge."

The venue was packed out to catch their set and the gallery owner encouraged people to step forward so that more people could squeeze inside. Not only was there a solid crowd for the set, but the band also jammed the small stage with six musicians. The band's core are vocalist Sophia Tzavalas, guitarist Jacob Hammersly, and bassist Casey Sublette.

The band recently released a debut album Absentia and performed all the songs off of it. The album's sound is a mix of Los Angeles DIYers Bone Acre (inactive) and Leslie Stevens. Later on that day, I went off to Bar Henry to catch Belle and Chain before spending the evening at The Echo to catch Grand Ole Echo. So Sonora Pines kicked off a Sunday that was filled with Americana-Country-Desert Rock music. 

The Song Spotlight goes to "TFM." It is their most rocking tune that pumped up the crowd. It is about a local musician who is way too full of himself and Tzavalas is just not buying it.
