Song Spotlight: Neta's Blood and Ink (a night at Hotel Ziggy)

Note: This set occurred back in July. I put a hold on it until "Blood and Ink" got released.

Neta (the mononym for Neta Rozenblat) had his debut set at a WFNM showcase at Hotel Ziggy. It was his debut show, but he has a fascinating music background. He is a member of as1one, which is the first Israeli-Palestinian boy band. Unlike the boy band pop sounds behind as1one, Neta performed a solo singer-songwriter set with his only companion being an acoustic guitar. I should say his only companion on stage was his guitar. Off stage, his friends cheered him on and two (one, I believe, being his girlfriend) took turns taking video of the full set.

Comment of the set: Ignore the fact that both first sentences of these songs have the word "flower" in it. It is unintentional.

That comment was made before his song "Safe and Sound." Though this was his debut show, he mentioned that he wrote that song a decade ago. It is a song about behind far away from a friend. The friend called him, telling him that she had gotten assaulted. 

His song "Dreams" was about being unable to sleep without a certain person being by your side. He later joked about another song being about a lady from a small town and that he wanted to do something special while performing the song, but that he couldn't get a permit for a camp fire at Hotel Ziggy.

Though it was a solo set, one could still hear those power pop influences in his singing. At the right moments, his vocals would skillfully progress up and down the musical scale. Those moments got his friends to give him well deserved cheers. 

The song spotlight goes to "Blood and Ink." At the time, it was unreleased, but you can now listen to it. He is not a person who avoids difficult topics. Perhaps that is why he is part of the band as1one. As for this particular song, he mentioned that the song is about self harm, "I met this person a while back. They have a lot of scars on their hands and on their legs." He mentioned that people on social media have told him their own stories and that the has helped them.
