On Julez and the Rollerz's Instagram account, they announced that they were "playing a short and sweet set" at Permanent Records Roadhouse. Before heading out, that announcement was a bit of a disappointment for me. This was the first time I was going to catch the band in about a year and they were going to play a shortened set? Then I got to the venue and saw that they were playing a 9 song set. Hmm, that seemed like a normal number of songs to play during a set. Also, my estimate is that their set clocked in at the 30 minute mark. That to me is your standard set length in the LA music scene so I feel like I got more than anticipated of their 60s retro rock. I suppose that is called under-promising and over-delivering?

This is a band that I've covered for two different music blog sites. I believe the first time I ever saw this band was at the 2022 Happy Sundays Long Beach Music Festival, which I covered for Buzzbands. They're also scheduled to play the festival this year. I then covered their EP Is This Where The Party Is? release party in 2023 for US Rocker Music.
With a "Hey, we're starting," the band began their set with "Sorry I'm Just a Waste of Time." A song about needing your own space every so often, "My harsh reality reminds me time and time again that I need lots of space to breathe." When it came to the song "Always Hard 4 U," lead singer Jules Batterman's vocals went operatic. I don't believe that song has been released yet. Hopefully, they do release it. They ended their set with a Led Zeppelin inspired song, "Think About It."

Got to say, bassist Morgyn Payge is becoming one good hype person for the band.
The song spotlight is the band's most recent release "Call Me Up." Their Instagram post on the song has the following quote, "A little tune about calling up that ‘situationship’; the crush you know you shouldn’t have but you just can’t help yourself!"

Batterman introduced the song with a offer, "Sing along if you know it." A beat later someone in the audience said in a sarcastic manner of someone who obviously knew the lyrics, "If we know it . . . "
it's hard to feel rightin this humorous world
but I might lose myself to temptation
The rock 'n roll tune has vocals snarls for the chorus and hard steady drum beats to set the pace for the guitars to insert the riffs.

Just as a note. All the way back to that 2022 show, Hannah Hughes has always been part of the band. It was announced a couple weeks back that she was leaving the band. For this show, Maria Ono filled in for her. For fans of Hughes, don't worry (if you're not already aware), she is still involved in music. She recently released the song "Stranger With My Secrets." You can watch the music video here.
Other than playing Happy Sundays Long Beach, the band will be playing the Moroccan Lounge on June 27th.
Setlist: Sorry I'm Just a Waste of Time, New Connection, Phaser, Always Hard 4 U, Call Me Up, Hot Take, Confess, Think About It.
