Hysteria fronted by Dakota Cosgrove took to the Zebulon for only their second set ever. The set was to celebrate their "Reason to Pray" single release. I wasn't planning on heading out on Memorial Day. I was going to stay home and watch an old war movie (Where Eagles Dare), because of . . . well . . . Memorial Day. I did watch that movie at a later date. Was it a good idea to head out to Zebulon on this night? It definitely was.

While hanging around between sets at Zebulon, a fellow local Los Angeles music fan came up to me and was very excited to tell me that Wisp (Natalie R. Lu) was at the venue. I then noticed during Hysteria's set that Lu was right there smack in the middle of the venue floor. I did some research and learned that Cosgrove plays guitar in Wisp. And I've got to say that Lu seemed very friendly towards the fans that came up to her.

During the set, it was mentioned that the band's drummer was having to pick up the guitar for the night. The missing guitarist is Brookelen who I happened to catch back in December at The Fable fronting her own project and then this year playing with Ryan Pollie's new project Lower Merion.

The set was a short six song set, which included an Ashley Simpson cover. Cosgrove mentioned the shortness of the set with an apologetic tone when it came to the final song, which was the reason for their set, "Reason to Pray." The band's music often starts with a mellow sound before blasting the volume on high. That can be said about "Reason to Pray." It starts off with quiet guitar strumming, before rocking. The music video (you can watch it here) has a boy initially lying on the grass, which if you are of a certain age has you thinking about the movie Boyhood. The primary reason I decided to head out was because of this song. The whispering vocal start that shifted to aggressive guitar play caught my attention.
It is a song that unleashes emotional anguish.

P.S. Thanks to the drummer for the above setlist even though my phone got handed off to someone else. Ha ha. I did get it back.
