NFV Song Spotlight: Audrey Lisette Band's Take Back the Memories

The Audrey Lisette Band Instagram page describes their music as "genre fluid band." The Spotify bio says that their music mixes jazz, rock, and blues. The band's WFNM night at Hotel Ziggy definitely aligned and expanded on that description. The set opened up with "Love Again" that featured her deep vocals and 70s rock chops. The song has addictive climatic moments that resolve in repeat fashion. The song ended with a lengthy and enjoyable riff.

It was the band's first time at WFNM. They were the last band of the night, which can be hit and miss when it comes to audience size. A lot of times, people show up for the earlier bands / singers and then take off. Well, on this particular night, she brought along a fan base to support her. It was definitely noticed by the band, "So many faces." The crowd no doubt energized the band. I have to admit that I personally sometimes catch two or three songs of the last band of the night before heading off to my car to make the long drive from the Sunset Strip to Glendale, but this band got me to stick around.

The band announced an upcoming EP before launching into "Double Life" that will be included on it. It was a jazzy rendition with spacey guitar strumming. The lengthy rift for "Blur" got the crowd pumped and cheering. The song "Fight or Fly" was introduced with, "I was like shaking when I finished writing it." The blues driven song has intricate guitar playing that had her facing off against her bassist Dawson Lamas and drummer Jake Lebron.

We all try to hide.
Everything that's inside.

Showing love to Stevie Ray Vaughan, the band covered "Pride and Joy. The blues rock tune actually had me flashbacking to Back to the Future and Marty McFly playing the high school dance prom. The song "Never Ending Change" brought down the music volume with a soulful attitude, "If you have flashlights, this might be the song for you." Out came the phones. A friend of the band came to the very front of the stage, took a knee, and did some fan meditation worship.

The band closed it out with "Take Back the Memories." It has a drug infused blues beat to start off the song, resulting from the pain of a broken relationship with lyrics that could easily have found a place on an Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind soundtrack. As if to highlight the band's desire to be genre fluid, the song shifted away from from the blues genre and explored the music composition from an R'n'B perspective.

Please let me forget you
Cause it hurts less than to miss you
