Online Quarantine Sets: Version 86

The Regrettes hit the Dr. Martens Instagram Live for a quick 10 minute 3 song set on Saturday at 1 p.m. The set was done in the living room of someone's house. It had a clean minimalist feel to it (at least the part we were able to see). High ceilings. White paint and drapes. There was a single plant in the corner. The floor was wood. Part of a rug was in view. And three members of the band were sitting on Ottoman seats while the third sat on a Cajon drum. And was that a pair of skates hidden behind them all?

It was a three song acoustic set that was lively and fun. Too bad it was only 10 minutes. 

Statement of the set: I've forgotten how to speak to anyone for forever.

Quarantine Online Sets: Version 78

Sunflower Bean was up on Dr. Martens' Instagram Live doing a quick 13 minute set. Stupid me, I accidentally forgot it was on Dr. Martens' Instagram Live and not Culture Collide's. I kept refreshing Culture Collide's Instagram for a couple minutes before finally doing the preverbal hitting my forehead. I ended up missing most of the first song. Luckily, as is the world of Instagram, I got to catch that first song that I missed via "tape delay."

I did get to catch the full second song, "Twentytwo." I got a 70s folk vibe that overlays across 90's Sixpence None the Richer's "Kiss Me" inspiration. Their guitarist looked like he would fit well with the 70s and that vibe fits nicely with the name of their band. 

Got to love the lead singer's footwork when it came to nailing the end of a song.

I'm really glad it finally dawned on me that I was suffering brain freeze. An awesome set.

Quarantine Online Sets: Version 62

Lauren Ruth Ward dropped by Dr. Martens' Instagram Live for a 15 minute set. Wearing an American flag top, she jumped right into her blues rock set after setting up the Live performance. Her set was full on energy with arms in full motion as she danced in joy on the rug floor. 

After her first song, she came up to the camera and said with cheer, "Hi, everyone."

Lyric of the quick set: "While I feel the bleed."  Perhaps a more biological take on Divinys' "I Touch Myself." The song was done with a miniskirt flip and similar PG-13 suggestions. 

To end the set, she said, "Hope to see you soon." Yes, sometime, she shall return to the live stage.

Quarantine Online Sets: Version 37

The only online set I caught last week was The Paranoyds. Hey, honestly, if I could only catch one online set during the week -- this band would be one I'd circle to fill that spot. I've loved this band since the first time I caught them at The Factory. Their pop-punk tunes just grab your attention.

Their set was on the Dr. Martens' Instagram page and was at 1 p.m. So I caught the set while doing the work-from-home situation. They looked in good cheer and sped through a quick 15 minute set. All the band members were in place so the full band sound was on display.

If I had known it was just 15 minutes, I would have stopped working. Instead, I let their music be my motivation to get through what I needed to do at that moment.
