Capri has a youthful enthusiasm that served her well at Hotel Ziggy during her WFNM set. The singer has an interesting background. Prior to writing on this blog about singers and bands that I've never seen before, I'll do a little Internet search on them to provide me with some writing material. Results popped up without much effort.

Capri is short for Capri Everitt. As an 11 year old, she toured the world singing 80 different national anthems in each of the respective countries. The singing was also done in each host nation's language. The tour raised money for SOS Children's Village. In 2018, the Huffington Post listed her as one of 16 girls that changed the world.
Interesting little note about the night was that relatives took the spotlight. Opening up the night was Sophie Coran from Philadelphia. Her grandmother was taking a vacation in Los Angeles and took her granddaughter along with her. Sally Spitz, a singer I've followed for years and the reason I went out to this particular WFNM night, had both parents in the audience. Capri had her mother helping with the tracks and gave her a shoutout, "Can we give it up for my mother Kerrie, who's running playback for me? She's never done this before."

Capri's music has obviously veered away from singing austere national anthems. The set was filled with danceable pop tunes. I do love when singers give some background info on their songs. For the song "Lucky," she explained it as being about a near significant other who paid bouncers at a club to spy on her. For the song "Spiders," she mentioned that she isn't afraid of spiders, but that instead the song was about her fears of emotional commitment and vulnerability. She went with the title "Spiders," because having a song title with emotional commitment and vulnerability in it just doesn't have a "ring to it."
As with a youthful enthusiasm, she interacted with the crowd with ease. For one song, she got everyone in the audience to bring out their camera flash lights. At another time, she asked if anyone in the audience had ever been "played" by a significant other. There were also the dance grooves throughout the set that had her feeling at ease in stepping away from the comfort of the stage.

As for the song "Spiders," she wasn't lying when she said she isn't afraid of spiders. The music video that you can see here prominently features a tarantula that walks near her face while she is in bed and also spends time walking across her hand. The song had her step away from her dance pop and instead had her singing while sitting on a stool. The song focuses on vocal expression.
I just hope you'll catch me. Tell me you'll catch me.
Partial setlist: Lucky, Spiders, If I Ain't Got You (Alicia Keys cover), Runnin, Not Your Toy.
