Review: SWEAT hits the mosh gym at Zebulon

How does one describe the band SWEAT? Screaming that would wake the dead. Grunts that caused fans to rush the stage and trampoline off into the crowd. Speed metal that was relentless. The Zebulon hosted this band on a Monday night. If you had a bad first day of the workweek, this was the night for you. Those passive aggressive feelings towards your boss or co-worker (who pissed you off in the first hour of the work day after having a wonderful weekend)? One could easily turn those feelings into acceptable non-passive aggression.

As the band was setting up their gear to start off their set, a friend plopped himself down right at stage center. There was some shared laughter as sitting there during the full set might have caused the guy some physical harm.

When the band started up their set, lead singer Tuna Tardugno noticed that there was some empty space between the stage and the crowd. She took the opportunity to take to the floor, pacing the floor while screaming her lyrics like a person possessed. As she paced, it was like she was challenging anyone to do some moshing with her. Somehow during the song she got silenced as her microphone went dead. Up to the stage she went to take over her guitarist's microphone. It was only a short while later that that microphone also went silent on her -- though it latter started working again.

That ended her attempt to perform on the venue floor. She asked people to come closer to the stage, because she wasn't going out there anymore, because she would just "f*ck things up by going into the crowd." Of course, it was just a moment later that she started to hit her guitarist with her fists, which nearly sent his microphone falling to the ground. "I'm not going to touch anything anymore. Literally anything."

As the crowd had come closer to the stage, the back of the floor was dedicated to a mosh pit with one person jumping the stage and then leaping back into the mosh pit a couple times.

The band attempted to slow things down just a touch towards the end of the set, but that lasted only for a few beats. Soon, Tardugno was speed jogging in place next to her guitarist, attempting to keep up with the rapid pace being set by the drummer.

As the set came to a conclusion, an apology was required, "I'm sorry to the sound guy."

Comment of the night: This goes out to Sarah who says that guitar music is dead.  Unbelievable.

Setlist: Hit and Run, Commercial Pleasure, Wipees, Motorhead, Predisposed Paranoia, Arena, Regulations, (DAG), Swanthem, Jokes on Me, Boyz Klub.
