NFV Song Spotlight: Lo Moon's Waiting A Lifetime

I'll be honest, I have not seen Lo Moon all that often. I first saw the band in 2016 at The Echo and didn't run across them again until their Zebulon residency in 2023. With that acknowledgement, I can't say that I'm a super fan, but I am a fan.

Even though that is a long stretch of time, that first performance stuck with me. I wrote this brief little comment about the band at the time:

"First up was LO MOON. They're dark and moody with pulsating drums and guitars. And then there was the hair toss and cracked smile when things went perfectly with a song."

Lo Moon at The Roxy

Hair toss, that must have been a reference to bassist and keyboardist Crisanta Baker. The cracked smile, that must have been a reference to lead singer Matt Lowell.

Those three sentences isn't much of a write-up, but I just clearly remember seeing the band. Also playing that night was Clara-Nova and was actually why I went to The Echo on that particular night. If my notes from the night are correct, it was also the first time I caught that band. I had apparently missed their set at Make Music Pasadena (a past music festival in Pasadena) and was happy to catch a set a few weeks later. Let's say that was one special night, seeing two bands for the first time and enjoying their music ever since (I've seen Clara-Nova a handful of times throughout the years.)

Lo Moon at The Roxy

My fandom of Lo Moon included wanting to blog about the band for two music sites. For their 2023 residency, I wrote up a post on Buzzbands that you can read here. That write-up was an interesting situation. Kevin Bronson and I had discussed the residency and about me covering one of the nights for the site. He suggested a specific date as he'd heard good things about one of the opening singers. I, of course, wanted to catch as many nights as possible so off I went to this particular night. Anyways, the band had a surprise cameo guest named Lauren Mayberry . . . of CHVRCHES. I sent a text message to Bronson, basically saying that this was the night he wanted me to review.

Flash forward to early 2025, and the band was playing a set at The Roxy as they were concluded their I Wish You Way More Than Luck tour. I, of course, wanted to review that February night, as well, so I reached out to US Rocker about during a review for the site. You can read my review here.

The tour was in support of their 2024 album of the same name as the tour. What is the song I'd like to highlight from that album? "Waiting A Lifetime."

Lo Moon at The Roxy

The song starts off quietly for 15 seconds while slowly building up throughout those opening musical bars until it blasts open with a humming melody. Baker provides the polyphony lyrics, "I've been waiting a lifetime" while Lowell is trying to find the meaning in life.

Everyday I'm more confused
Can’t seem to keep myself amused
