Lovecolor came on through Los Angeles in support of their (at the time) soon to be released debut album "LOVECOLOR." The Hotel Cafe was the place to be to catch the set. The band played seven of the nine songs off the album as well as two of lead singer Vanessa Silberman's own previous releases.

I first came across the band last year at Hotel Ziggy during a WFNM night in May 2023. That was an all around solid night of music. I went there specifically to catch Moderns, a band I've followed through the years. I came away with two other favorite bands: Fresh Hot Waffles and, of course, Lovecolor. And not to be forgotten, Rainee Blake also sang that night. In fact, I loved Lovecolor's set so much that I put the band on my annual "New to Me, but Maybe not to You" list.
The band is a two piece, which also includes Ryan Carnes on drums and is based out in New York City so there isn't much of an opportunity to catch this band live. As soon as I noticed that the band was playing Hotel Cafe, I added it to my music calendar.

What draws me to this band? I think their bio sums up my addiction to their music: "a musical force of sultry alt pop, dark synth, dance and rock sounds, centered around exploring the many aspects of love." The cherry on top is that the band puts on a good stage show. Silberman shifts between vocals only and playing guitar. When going vocals only on songs like "Dangerous" or "New York [New York replaced with LA for the night] Baby," she danced and twisted throughout the songs, using the microphone stand as a dance partner. When singing with her guitar and gold microphone, she hugged that guitar close and for the final song "Love Held My Body" played the guitar with the body pressed downwards against the stage.
Got to give Carnes some love on drums who would end the more upbeat songs with his right arm held up, holding the drum stick straight above his head. Also got to give him props for whispering to Silberman that perhaps they should ask the sound guy if they could add a couple songs to the setlist, which I believe were her own two songs.

What song am I going to highlight here? For me, that's a bit difficult. My favorite songs back in May 2023 were "Hearts on Fire" and "Crazy Love." I don't know if they played "New York Baby" back in May 2023, but that one also catches my attention as it floats beautifully along with the steady drum beats.
I'm going with "Hearts on Fire" here. Silberman's vocals are vibrant with a song of blissful love. This band celebrates the positives of relationships. After hearing a few too many depressing songs (not that I don't love those, as well), it is nice to listen to that positive spin on life.

Baby I need you
As for the audience, songs like "Crazy Love" and "Love Will Always Find a Way" had those standing in the back breaking out their dance moves.
