SEÑOR JAGUAR opened up the night for a Swyndle showcase at Harvard & Stone. They're a Pomona based band that was coming to Hollywood. They spent time trying to get a sense of the crowd's reaction to their music. "Thumbs up or thumbs down?" "Anyone tired of us?" "We can just go back to work." Their onstage spunk won over the crowd, which demanded an encore. While the band packed it up, lead singer Javier Chairez-Vega entertained the crowd with a solo tune.

Moment of the set: When there was an extended grand pause for a song, there was a look at a non-existent watch to count off the silent beat before continuing.
The band was kind enough to participate in a Q&A.
Q. How would you describe your sound? A. If we had to describe our sound it would be a collision of 1950s rockabilly twang, snappy Merseybeat hooks, dripping wet California surf reverb, La Movida Madrileña garage punk, with the attitude of Mexican Norteño music.

Q. What's a dream venue/festival you'd love to play at and what about it intrigues you? A. A dream of ours is to play the Viva Pomona Festival in our hometown, sharing the stage with the many other talented artists from the region. There is so much great music to listen to coming out of there and the IE. Another dream would be to play a tour through all the Spanish-speaking countries and connect with the diverse musical cultures.

Own Q&A. One of the questions we love to answer is where is everyone from? A. People see us sometimes and they don’t believe that we’re Hispanic. Javier (rhythm guitar/vocalist) is straight up Mexican, Güero (drums) is Mexican with German roots, Anthony (bass) is Mexican-Colombian, and Brandon (lead guitar) is Ecuadorian-Cuban with German roots but he took a DNA test that said he was 3% Mexican. He really feels that 3%.
Setlist: Malverde, Beach Samba, Hasta Mañana, El (punk cover of a ballad by Los Strwck), Coyote Coast, Great Big Kiss (Johnny Thunders cover), Tremolo, Isla De Encanta (Pixies cover), Orilla Del Mar.
The band will be playing on Oct 10th (Saturday) at Route 30 Brewing.
great band, love this Q&A portion!
